Site Layout
The excavation of nine sites within
the pipeline corridor was extensive
enough to provide data relevant to
site layout.
The four Mesa Verde sites displayed
two patterns. The first pattern, illus-
trated here by 5MT5498, had surface
room(s) at the north end, kiva(s) in
the center and midden(s) at the south
end. The second pattern (not
illustrated) had a stockade partially
enclosing an activity area; this site
(5MT5456) was only partially exca-
vated and surface rooms and a kiva
are suspected to exist to the east of
the excavated portion.

The five Aztec sites showed little pat-
terning. One example is illustrated
here by LA80316, where a unique
cluster of pithuts and pithouses was
located.
