Tree Use
Paleoenvironment:
To examine if changes occurred in
the surrounding environment as a
result of human activities, the
hearth fuel and roof construction
wood of two successively occu-
pied kivas at 5MT5498 were ana-
lyzed. Structure 6 was occupied
sometime after 1130 and Struc-
ture 7 was occupied around 1145.

Among other things, it can be
seen that over time, Populus
(cottonwood or willow) was used
in relatively the same percentages
in roof construction, and Juniper
was replaced by Pinyon as hearth
fuel.
