dendrochronological
(tree-ring) dating
Age of Sites:
Only three Late Anasazi sites
were dated on the basis of den-
drochronology. A total of 36
tree-ring samples (all from
burned structural remains)
yielded dates, as shown in this
graph.

The data suggest that the two
kivas at 5MT5498 were occu-
pied consecutively. Structure 6
appears to have been con-
structed around 1130 using
some salvaged timbers; Struc-
ture 7 was probably constructed
around 1145.

The two New Mexico sites are
located adjacent to each other.
The data suggest that the occu-
pation of LA46147's kiva
(Structure 1) was contempora-
neous with that of LA80316’s
pithouse (Structure 6), both
being built around 1130.
