In addition to food and medicine, plant resources provided the Pueblo I people with raw materials for
making a variety of textiles. Textile forms included baskets, bags, cordage, clothing, footwear and
blankets. Such items, however, rarely preserve on open sites except in burned, usually subterranean,
contexts. The remains of several carbonized textiles were found in three burned pithouses at LA27092
and 5LP379 during the 1999 excavations. These partially complete items consist of cordage, a looped
bag, six coiled baskets, five sandals, two feather blankets, and a broom. Several of these items are
illustrated here. |
