In order to estimate the Navajo population of the
study area sites, three different methods were
used. These three methods derive population esti-
mates based on the floor area (square meters) of
excavated structures. For the current project, 14
residential sites were examined.

As can be seen from this table, the three methods
produced three different estimates for the number
of occupants in each excavated structure in the
study area through time. However, the overall evi-
dence is for a relatively small Navajo population in
the study area.
